NATIONAL GREENING PROGRAM
The National Greening Program (NGP) is a government strategy with the aim of achieving strong positive impact to society and the environment. It is also a government priority program designed to reduce poverty, promote food security, develop environmental stability and biodiversity conservation, as well as enhance climate change adaptation. It started its implementation in the year 2011 by virtue of Executive Order (E.O) No. 26.
The National Greening Program requires the planting of 1.5 billion trees in about 1.5 million hectares for a period of six (6) years, from 2011 to 2016, in denuded and degraded areas and in priority watershed and protected areas.
The CY 2015 marks the 5th year of the NGP implementation. For PENRO Surigao del Sur, it aims to established new NGP sites with a total area of 4,274.0 hectares that shall be identified in close coordination with the different LGUs and POs and shall served as our partners through the execution of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Area development are distributed as follows: PENRO Tandag-60.0 hectares, CENRO Cantilan-1,034.0 hectares, CENRO Lianga-1,352.0 hectares and CENRO Bislig-1,828.0 hectares.
Aside from the regular target, an additional area of 1,248.0 hectares has been identified and surveyed for NGP implementation under Mechanization and Modernization of Forest Nursery (MMFN).
